Bozeman is a great town, with a charming main street, galleries, shops and fine dining. There's the Museum of the Rockies and planetarium, the American Computer Museum, Gallatin County Museum, Emerson Cultural Center, summer Shakespeare in the Parks, several theater companies, the annual Sweet Pea Festival, and other yearly events. The new library is wonderful, and has a terrific children's area. The recreation department has a fine indoor pool facility, with enormous floating children's toys, as well as an outdoor pool with waterslide, and there are swimming ponds, outdoor ice rinks, groomed X-C trails, and a public skatepark. Bridger Bowl offers great alpine skiing and snowboarding an easy 16 mile-drive to the north, with Bohart Ranch, a fine XC-facility, just beyond. Big Sky and Moonlight Basin are an hour+ south, down Gallatin Canyon. Bozeman Hot Springs and Spa, and two public golf courses, are within 6-12 miles. World-class fly fishing, and river-running, from gentle to action-packed, are available on the Gallatin, Madison, and the Yellowstone Rivers, within a half-hour or more. Yellowstone Park: 90 minutes away (via either West Yellowstone or Gardiner). Headwaters of the Missouri State Park: 30 min. Lewis and Clark Caverns: 45 min. There's great walking/hiking/mountain biking/XC skiing even right in town, thanks to an excellent trail system. In summer, there is lift-served mountain biking at Big Sky, and Bohart Ranch opens its trail for mountain biking.
