Description of the Property

This massive rustic log lodge, erected in 1934 by Finnish craftsmen, is built of materials gathered within a fifteen-mile radius of the site. Located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Michigamme Lake Lodge, also known as the Sam Cohodas Lodge, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 (National Register: 91000331). The lodge is a rectangular, compound-massed, side gable, two-story log structure located near the mouth of the Peshekee River on the northern portion of Lake Michigamme. It is one of the largest, true log structures in the state with over 5,000 sq. ft. of living space. More importantly, perhaps, is that the lodge is so comfortable and relaxing in any season - suitable for any "dream vacation." With over 500' of waterfront on one of the largest lakes in all of Michigan (Michigamme Lake has 95 miles of shoreline, 27 islands (some to explore) and over 4300 acres of water), a sandy beach, large boathouse (with new sauna), a massive wood deck overlooking the lake and a two-story high stone fireplace, the distinctive home is the perfect balance between "show place" and a "let your hair down, kick up your heels, go fishing" traditional Michigan wilderness camp. Perfect for several couples, large families, reunions or corporate get-aways. Summer recreation includes hiking, biking, boating, fishing, waterskiing/wakeboarding, canoeing/kayaking, relaxing, reading, watching the sun set or the eagles land on the deck and, in the winter, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, skiing, snowboarding. Marquette Mountain ski resort is about 45' away. Beautifully furnished and, as an active vacation home, there are regular improvements in home amenities. Dining room table, original to the home, seats 10-12. Outside the great room is a large bar/recreation/card room with a wall of windows to take in the commanding view of the lake. The lodge is located in Michigamme, MI about 30 miles west of Marquette, MI along Rte. 41.
