Description of the Property

Affordable, sunny, no-bank waterfront beach house for a relaxing respite on spectacular West Beach of Whidbey Island. Views: Olympic Mountains,Strait of Juan de Fuca, San Juan Islands, & Swan Lake. On a clear night you can see hints of the distant lights of Victoria, B.C. to the west and hints of the lights of Anacortes on Fidalgo Island (which is one of the San Juan Islands),to the north. Stargazing from the hot tub is awesome out over the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the west. Enjoy the spectacular night sky from the warmth of the hot tub in the evening after sunset!

The moment you arrive at this private Whidbey retreat you will begin to relax as you hear the soothing sound of the waves breaking on the beach. This Whidbey Island beach house is located on Sunset Beach and/or West Beach, or just the "ocean" by locals on the Strait of Juan de Fuca - due west of Oak Harbor and due east of Victoria, B.C. Come and enjoy our sunny, unique location - located in the Olympic rain shadow with 17" of rain a year (compared to Seattle's 35" a year) and one of the few places on Whidbey Island that has true surf - the wonderful sound of the waves is always near as the tides roll in and out. The surf is truly dramatic and incredibly close to the house!

In addition to the surf, there is a rare salt marsh across the road to the east of the house. It is a favorite spot for fall waterfowl hunters and avid birders who come from near and far for the many birds including herons (see photo of Swan Lake), hawks, falcons, eagles, ducks, geese, cormorants, loons, and sea gulls. Over 100 different bird species have been identified by the Whidbey Audubon Society as using this rare salt water esturary. Enjoy your birding from the kitchen window with coffee cup in hand!

This Whidbey beachhouse has two stories with both bedrooms located upstairs on the second level. The master bedroom is large and includes a king size bed and sitting area with double size sofa bed and its own private deck. The second bedroom is a more modest size with the queen size bed and does double duty as laundry room with washer and dryer. There is a full bathroom upstairs and a half bathroom downstairs. The rest of the downstairs is a "great room" with the kitchen on the east side (with a greenhouse window overlooking the salt marsh), the dinning area is in the middle and the living room with high efficiency fireplace is on the west side of the house. When one is sitting at the dining room table looking out to the west, it is imaginable that you are on a boat, as you cannot see any land but only water past the deck railings! If you want privacy on the ocean with a good chance of sunshine - this is it!

Park your car(s) in the double garage, accessible with key pad.

There is a four person size soft tub on the west deck. The tap water is from a small, local well and has a very high levels of minerals, thus taking a hot tub on the west deck is comparable to a European mineral health spa - it's wonderful year round!

Our Whidbey beachhouse is perfect for one or two couples or a family of three or four. We can accomodate up to two additional people if you are okay being cozy by using the double size sofa bed in the large master bedroom and a single size sofa bed in the main living area. Children are welcome, however, due to the house being right on the water, close parental supervision is essential.

The air is brisk, fresh, cool, clean and full of healing negative ions - after all, it's just been on a cleansing journey across the Pacific ocean to Whidbey Island! This is a place to relax and recharge as you enjoy the peace and quiet of nature's beauty on the edge of the world where land meets sea. You may get lucky and observe a whale, otter, sea lion or wind surfer. You will most certainly see big ships and little boats of all kinds since we are directly on the main shipping lanes.

This Whidbey beach house is approximately 2 hours north of Seattle and it is 2 hours south of Vancouver, B.C. You can come by ferry via the Mukilteo/Clinton ferry, via the Port Townsend/Keystone ferry or drive by crossing over via spectacular Deception Pass Bridge (more people come to see Deception Pass each year than visit the Grand Canyon). Deception Pass is a "must see" and is only 12 miles away from our beachhouse. Deception Pass State Park offers miles of unspoiled hiking trails through old growth forest, a fabulous year round kayak tour that is complete with kelp beds, a sea cave, resident porpoise & harbor seal and spectcular pristine beaches. Additional activities within a short drive include a nice public swimming pool in Oak Harbor, horseback riding 6 miles away at Madrona Ridge Ranch outside of Coupeville and go-cart racing 3 miles away in Oak Harbor.

Airport: Seattle/Tacoma Intnl or Vancouver Intnl
Distance: 2.5 hrs - it's 1/2 way btwn both
