Description of the Property

St Thomas, Virgin Islands (US) Classy Mediterranean Style Island Paradise. Pristine views and absolute privacy on St Thomas' North Shore. Within 5 to 20 minutes of 5 beautiful beaches. Please ask for link to Additional Photos.

Gorgeous private home on the north side of St. Thomas. 5 min walk, 1 min drive, to beach access.(see photo), 10 to 15 minute drive from the airport (airport is on southside of island, we are on the north, thus NO airport noise). We lived in this home for 7 years and we hope you will enjoy it as much as we have. It is fully furnished with country antiques and modern pieces. It is so beautiful, we cannot bear to part with it, even though we now live 6000 miles away . It is available for weekly rental. Pristine north side location with absolutely perfect views of the turquoise blue waters and nearby islands. Frigate birds, hawks and banana quits fly over head as you sit on the porch. Parrots may be seen flying by in pairs in the tropical forest below . The view never ceased to amaze me, even after 7 years. The house has air conditioning downstairs only. Upstairs there is a sweet bedroom with the best views of the water and tropical forest. It has two twin beds that may be placed separately or together to make a shorter king. Both our girls love to sleep up here. Upstairs there is also a bathroom with toilet, sink and shower with views to the ocean on one side, and the tropical forest on the other. There is also a small covered porch upstairs where our girls loved to play when they were younger, or guests may enjoy the tranquil beauty that surrounds. This porch does not have glass windows and so gives the feeling of being outside, yet the protection of shade and cover if it rains. The kitchen, living room, dining room, one bedroom, and one bathroom are downstairs in the airconditioned part of the house. The dining room/ living room has views to the water below. There is a king sized Stearns and Foster bed in the downstairs airconditioned bedroom. The house is a scenic 18 minute drive to Magen's bay, 10 minutes to Hull bay, five minutes to Neltjeberg and Caret Bay. 15 minutes over the hill to downtown Charlotte Amalie. The house is a 1 min drive to the top of a path that leads to the beach below our house: Mail Bay. The hike down to the beach is down stairs along the side of Carolynn's house (she is our neighbor who meets you at the airport), and then a walk down a dirt path, and over a few beach boulders. Last time I was there in April 09 I swam with a sea turtle at mail Bay, as well as a large school of blue tang, and many parrotfish. The coral reef is one of the best anywhere in the VI, and according to our friends who have also swam at Coki, it is better snorkeling than Coki beach. Coki Beach is the beach where all tourists are told to snorkel. It is near Coral World. Our house is utterly quiet and peaceful, no traffic noises. The views from the porch and house into the coral reef and over the small islands of Inner and Outer Brass below are as beautiful as anything you will ever see. A 4 wheel drive rental car is necessary. The road is mostly paved, but with severely deteriorating parts, huge potholes, and buckling of pavement. The road is also a one lane road. Cars have to back up to find a spot to pass each other. Only the best drivers should try this. Also, on all St Thomas roads, traffic drives on the left side of the road. Our house is in the tropical forest, and may have any number of forest critters around. It may also not have everything working. Although we always try to repair items asap, island time is not the same as State side time, and there always seems to be something that is waiting to be repaired. If you are not inconvenienced by taking the house as is, and have had experience living in or visiting tropical places that do have a multitude of tropical life around, then our house may be for you. I have had people stay who have said that our home is more beautiful than they could have imagined, and others who could not take seeing occassional tree rats, tropical roaches and lizards. Although we let the lizards stay in our house, the tree rats and roaches we hope to keep out. If one comes in through an open window, or door, we have traps inside to catch them. Let me know if you would like to talk in person.

This house is great for adventure travellers. Carolynn will meet you at the airport with a board that has your name on it (usually the first name of the person who made the reservation); after you rent your car at the airport (4 wheel drive, Please) you will follow her to our house. She will show you around, and be your local contact. If you would like to reserve the house, I ask that after you check the availability (click on the words "Check availability") you pay a $200 deposit to a charity, and show me the deposit made and to which charity. You may pay Carolynn the cleaning fee upon arrival, and the balance to a charity after arrival.

On-Site Amenities

Beautiful porch. Pristine spectacular unspoiled views. Quiet and safe, beautifully decorated with antique furnishings. A 15 minute or less drive to 5 beaches, 10 minutes to town. It gives a good peek into life on an island. The beautiful house is situated on a hill so it gets an amazing view of the lush hillside and the beatiful blue water and islands below. It is nice to swing in the hammock on the big porch and listen to the swish of the trees and the crashing of the waves on the beach below while looking at the tropical birds flying over the water.

Activities and Attractions

On St Thomas you will have access to the best water sports on earth. Each beach is distinct, and there are too many to visit in one trip. Sorkeling, surfing, boogie boarding, etc. Our house has quiet pristine views. You can take a 1 min drive down to our neighbor's house, and walk 5 min down to our neighborhood beach, one of the prettiest anywhere. I highly recommend renting a boat with Sea and Ski, and our captain, Steve, and going on an adventure to the BVI, and Virgin Gorda's "The Baths"...Giant boulders create a maze of natural beauty, as they line the water's edge of one of the prettiest islands. Bring your passports for this. A new beach that is sublie, on St Thomas, is Smith Bay Beach. It is a maintained beach, like Magens Bay, but has a rugged beauty with tide pools, white sand and lots of shady trees. The view looks out to St John, and the water is so blue. There is a $2 entrance fee per car ful of people; two dollars total. We say an octopus in the tidepool this April. I always wanted to see one, and am so happy I finally did! Coral World is a great aquarium like place, although with it's elegant architecture, and beautiful garden lay out , it is not like any other aquarium you have ever been to before. Check it out on line. Happy travels!!!
