Description of the Property
A Provencal dream Located in the heart of the village of Sablet right next door to the 12th century church. It is likely (from the appearance of a part of this house), that it dates back to a similar time and at one time may have been associated with the church. The small access street leading to the front door was listed on old maps of the village as Rue des Pelerins or Pilgrims Street. Sablet is a charming and picturesque village situated in the heart of the Cote du Rhone wine growing region and is rich in history, antiques, markets, gastronomy and great wine! There is no shortage of excellent restaurants starting with Les Abeilles within walking distance of Maison des Pelerins, and including many, many others in the surrounding villages. For the culinary minded, Sablet is approx. 10 kilometers from Vaison la Romaine where American Chef and Author, Patricia Wells gives cooking classes at her restored 18th century farmhouse. Local chef and restauranteur, Johannis Salier (who sometimes works with Ms. Wells program) also gives cooking classes right here in the village at his restaurant during the winter months. This entire region is rich in history with many world heritage sites within one hour's drive - including the Papal Palace in Avignon (30mins), the Roman Amphitheatre in Orange where summer concerts are held each year (20mins) and Pont du Gard in Nimes (1hour) - just to name a few. Although seemingly tucked away, Sablet is a short 15min drive from the Freeway and very easily accessible from Avignon or Marseilles. The interior of Maison des Pelerins was totally remodeled three years ago. Further renovations have just been completed and this house provides an experience that is your dream of living in a Provencal village. On a warm summer morning, wake up to the church bells and smell the fresh bread baking at the Boulangerie below. Take two minutes in the morning to walk down for your fresh baguettes and croissants for breakfast. Pick up the newspaper (local, Parisian daily or the International Herald Tribune) at the "Press" while you are there. Enjoy an afternoon coffee on the terrace of the Café des Sports, where they make the best Café au lait in the world.
This property features modern amenities with the character and old world charm of a traditional Provencal home. Light airy and comfortable, the décor uses local materials and the craftsmanship of local artisans. The living room is spacious, ideal for relaxing - either with your favorite music, watching a movie or TV. A restful separate corner provides the ideal spot for reading, a quiet siesta on a warm afternoon or catching up on correspondence. The dining room is set up to enjoy those evenings when you wish to enjoy, a special meal and a bottle of the excellent wine made right here in the area. A kitchen fully equipped to allow you to use those culinary skills, together with the incredible fresh ingredients (available at the many Markets in the area) to create magic. The table and comfortable chairs in the kitchen ensures that you will never be lonely in the kitchen whilst cooking. From the kitchen, enjoy the view of the vineyards and the Dentelles de Montmirail or step outside through the French doors to the courtyard garden to snip fresh herbs and enjoy the ambience. Breakfast, lunch and dinner in the courtyard are especially magical. In the shadow of the old church, a soft glow from the lights of the steeple at night, the trickle of the fountain on a warm summer evening or a cool crisp Provencal morning. The gravelled courtyard is landscaped in the traditional Provencal style. It provides and charming and intimate space. Of course, an olive tree - bordered by grape vines, climbing wisteria, lavender, rosemary and many other herbs - not to mention, an antique fountain. The back wall of the old church (with grapes and wisteria climbing on it), makes up the back wall of the courtyard.
Upstairs in the oldest part of the house - tucked away under beamed ceilings you'll find two bedrooms and two bathrooms (one full bathroom and one with a shower and basin). The bedrooms are furnished and decorated for comfort, rest and relaxation. Both rooms are furnished with king sized beds and have windows that look out over the rooftops of Sablet, the nearby vineyards and the neighboring village of Seguret. The beds can be configured as two king sized beds or one king bed and two twin beds.
