Description of the Property

Enjoy an aperitif on the upper level terrace as the sun sets over the rooftops of the village of Sablet, the Dentelles de Montmirail and the surrounding vineyards of the Cote du Rhone.

Are you ready for that vacation in Provence?

La Grande Maison & La Petite Maison is the perfect answer for guests who would like the "village" experience - but cannot find a house of this size, "inside the walls" of a medieval village - which can accommodate their whole group.

Together, La Grande Maison and La Petite Maison will comfortably welcome up to 8 guests - 4 couples or 8 friends travelling together - perhaps attending culinary classes at Patricia Wells "Chanteduc" in nearby Vaison la Romaine, or right here in the village of Sablet at "Les Abeilles." La Grande Maison and La Petite Maison are also available for rental separately. Both have been carefully renovated with a style that combines modern European amenities with old Provence.

La Grande Maison has three large bedrooms, two with huge exposed beams and a shared en-suite and the master bedroom with views of the beautiful church garden and its own large en-suite complete with bath. The modern kitchen is in the provencal style and adjoins the bright and airy dining room and lounge with wood fire and central heating for the winter and ceiling fans for the summer

La Petite Maison - has a completely separate entry and is on the lowest level of the building. One bedroom, one bathroom, a modern fully equipped kitchen and a cozy salon with TV (satellite) and music system, provides the perfect pied a terre for a single traveller or two people who would like to enjoy the village life whilst exploring Provence.

On-Site Amenities

Close to everything but out off the radar.

It is a village where the people you will meet in the cafes and shops are your neighbours who live and work in the village or the surrounding area. Charming and picturesque - perched on a beehive shaped sandstone hill, Sablet developed over hundreds of years "inside the walls" where narrow concentric streets make their way to the top of the hill to the Church of St. Nazaire.

The ramparts or “the Barrys” as they are locally known have been restored by a group of local citizens devoted to preserving the historical architecture in the village. Covered “ruelles”, tall village houses huddled together to protect against invaders, fountains and lavoirs which were the village water supply and a place to do laundry, the “escaliers” (stone steps) make Sablet a delightful and restful place to get away to after a busy day’s sightseeing .

Literally two minutes walk from Les Maisons are the shops, cafes and restaurants that provide a onvenience to your daily life whilst here. The Bureau de Tourisme in the village square – not only provides lots of great information about this and all the neighboring villages but also a sampling of wines (for tasting and purchase) from all the Sablet wine makers. Many wineries can be found within walking distance of Les Maisons.

There are two Boulangeries (bakeries), two Epiceries (convenience markets), a Boucherie (Butcher), a Fleuriste, a Tabac – Presse, where you can pick up your daily copy of the local and Parisian daily newpapers as well as the International Herald Tribune, a Banque (with cash machine), Post Office and Medical Center with on duty doctors and a dentist.

The Café des Sports is a great place to relax over a café au lait, or an early evening aperitif, maybe before dinner at one of the neighboring restaurants - Le Cornucopia, Les Remparts -or the Pizza Comme Di where you can dine outdoors in the square or take it to go. Restaurant Les Abeilles brings to life “la cuisine du marché” as the seasonal menu showcases locally produced, fresh foods. The restaurant with its large plane tree shaded terrace is found a short walk from the village center on the Route de Vaison.

Activities and Attractions

Sablet is located within the scenic district of Vaucluse, reknowned for celebrated wines and the beautiful hills of the Dentelles de Montmirail. The village is only hours from the ski fields of the French Alps.

One of 12 villages awarded the distinction of Cotes du Rhone Villages, Sablet is built on the slope of a hill and features old fortification remains (walls, towers and gates) On the top of the hill is a small 13th century church. It is a short stroll to all the village amenities including tourist office, bakeries, butcher, general store and several restaurants.

Just a short distance from Sablet you will find the pretty villages of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and Fontaine-du-Vacluse where tourists can enjoy local markets or visit Vaison La Romain, the site of famous Roman Ruins. A day visit to Avignon is a must, only 40mins by car. There you can visit the palace of the Popes, indulge in some shopping and wander around the old walled city.

From Wikipedia.com Sablet is a truly Provencal village situated in the heart of the Cote du Rhone wine producing region, this relaxed, charming, fortified village is rich in history, gastronomy, leisure and cultural activities. You can make your way through the picturesque covered "ruelles" with their overhanging village houses, charming village gardens and fountains. It is, as yet, a largely undiscovered treasure, which lies at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail but allows one access to every part of Provence within easy day-tripping distance.
