Explore Caribbean Culture near Your Anguilla Rental

From your Anguilla rental, you can enjoy the cultural delights of Anguilla such as traditional boat races, world class cuisine, live music and vibrant festivals. And of course, some of the world's most stunning beaches are close to palm coast vacation homes.

Summer Festival

This annual festival which celebrates the emancipation of African slaves on the island is held in August. It's the most important and spectacular of Anguillan festivals. It begins with an early morning jazz jam and later on there are parades, dancing, fairs and more. Sailboat racing, the traditional sport of Anguilla is part of the festival.

Sailboat Racing

Anguillans are passionate about boat racing. Their hand-crafted sailboats are unique and colorful. During the races which are held regularly, the crew of the 28-foot long Class A boats usually consists of eleven men. The annual races attract boating enthusiasts from countries like France and the UK.

The races begin at the beach and remain close to the shore so people can watch. Some follow the racers in their own boats. It's a festive affair with brightly-hued sails, dancing, music and food cooked in open pit fires on the fluffy silver-white sands.

Live Music Near Your Anguilla Rental

Music is big in Anguilla. Keep an ear out for some excellent jazz and calypso. There's the annual Moonsplash in March which lasts all of the moonlit weekend - night and day. Catch some calypso during carnival time. If you like Reggae, head to Rendezvous Bay on a weekend and listen to Bankie Banx. Bankie also plays folk guitar, rhythm and blues as well as jazz.

The Mayoumba Folkloric Group

On Thursday evenings at the La Sirena Hotel in Anguilla, you can hear traditional Caribbean and Anguillan music by this long established group which also performs drama. The members of the group wear Caribbean costumes and play a variety of  instruments like cow bells, maracas, banjo and guitars.

Art Galleries

You'll find plenty of art galleries here. The Devonish Gallery showcases the work of the famous sculptor and potter, Courtney Devonish and other artists from the region. For more Caribbean art, try the Savannah Gallery which also features interesting tin work from Haiti.

Cheddie's Carving Studio is worth a visit for the works of art the artist carves into the roots of Rose Berries. Connoisseurs of art around the world admire his work.
