Annual Whiskey Flat Days

During the third weekend in February, the nearby city of Kernville, California hosts this annual festival. Started in 1955, the Annual Whiskey Flat Days is one the most popular festivals in Southern California.

Whiskey Flat celebrates the old Wild West days, when gold miners, ranchers and trappers dominated California. Festival events include parades, rodeos, line dancing, frog jumping contests, gold panning contests, art shows and Blue Grass and Country Western concerts. While there, visitors can also enjoy carnival rides and games, food booths and wood carving demonstrations.

Admission to the festival is free. Purchases are required for food, beverages and concert entrance. Festival hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. A visit to Whiskey Flat Days would be a fun day trip from your choice of Lake Isabella vacation homes.

The Living Green in the Kern River Valley Festival

Also in Kernville, California, this annual festival focuses on films, exhibits and expos that celebrate green living. The Living Green festival is a 10-day event and begins during the second week of March.

In addition to screening films, exhibiting art and presenting expos, the festival hosts panel discussions about green living and various environmental issues. These panel discussions often include the festival's participating filmmakers, artists and inventors.

Living Green hosts a marathon and a bicycle event. Participants of all ages are encouraged to attend. The festival also opens with a gala dinner and ends with an art show featuring work created with recycled materials.

Each event day begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m. Ticket purchases to the gala dinner and film screenings are required. Food and beverages are available.

Valley Fest

If you are visiting Lake Isabella in late October, why not visit the Valley Fest. This 1-day event takes place in Linda Kissack Ball Field, which is located near the lake. Presented by the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce, this festival is a very family-friendly event that includes games, a kid's park, a beer garden and entertainment performances.

Valley Fest also has a "Vendor Square" where visitors can buy artwork, crafts, clothing and souvenirs made by local residents. In addition to the beer garden, the festival has many beverage and food booths as well as picnic areas.

Admission to the festival is free; purchases for food and beverages are required. This festival begins at 11:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m.
