Tallahassee rental homes will have vacationers near all the top barbecue establishments. Tallahassee restaurants offer many different styles of barbecue to satisfy those wanting to try something new while on their sunny retreat in the Sunshine State. Make sure to try and dine at one or all while vacationing in Tallahassee.
Sonny's Bar-B-Q
Sonny Tillman and his wife Lucille founded Sonny's Bar-B-Q in 1968 to bring Southern barbecue to Tallahassee. Today, this family-friendly eatery has something on the menu for everyone. Start off your meal with an order of fried cream corn nuggets or a bowl of Brunswick stew. For a more healthier choice, try the unlimited salad bar. The main event at Sonny's is the ribs. Guests can choose from either baby back or St. Louis cut. Either way, enjoy them coated with their famous sweet bar-b-q sauce. If you choose the combo platter or all-you-can-eat, pulled or sliced pork, beef brisket and bar-b-q chicken is included as well. Side dishes such as the baked sweet potato come with the meal or can be ordered on their own. Besides the barbecue, other favorites at Sonny's are the catfish nuggets and the smoked turkey breast. Desserts include homemade fruit cobbler and banana pudding.
Old Town Cafe
Vacationers might not think to look at an old-fashioned eatery for great ribs, but Old Town Cafe serves up some of the best baby back ribs in the area. Guests come here not only for the great food, but the neon signs and vinyl booths. Stop by the bar for happy hour and enjoy a glass of chardonnay or merlot. Side dishes to go along with your ribs include cheese grits, sweet potatoes, or zucchini and squash. If you don't eat pork, then try their grilled chicken, teriyaki ribeye or grilled tuna fillet. Be sure to check their website for early bird and blue plate specials.
Piggy's BBQ
Of the many family-friendly restaurants surrounding Southern Dunes vacation homes, not one comes close to Piggy's BBQ. Besides having a kid's menu with ribs, chicken legs and pulled pork, Piggy's offers specials where kids eat for free. For the grownups, try the beef brisket and rib combo with fried okra, BBQ beans and cheese biscuits. Other meats to enjoy here are BBQ chicken and sausage links. Vegetarians can select a side sampler with corn, cheesy broccoli or sweet potato casserole. If you love a food challenge, order the "Porkzilla," which is six pounds of pulled pork on a 10-inch bun with cheese, slaw, pickles and bacon. Those that finish it in 30 minutes will get it for free. Check out the desserts that are homemade daily. Key lime white chunk cookies, peach cobbler and apple crisp are just a few examples.
There are many Southern Dunes vacation homes to choose from if you check in the right place. VacationHomes.com has several listings of properties and has sorted them by price, amenities, number of bedrooms and location. You are sure to find the one that will suit your needs.
