Kauai is the most northern island of the Hawaiian Island and is home to some of the beautiful beaches in the region and given the popularity of Kauai beaches, any vacation home or property such as a Kapaa condo is in high demand throughout the year. Kapaa is a large town in Kauai Island that has a big mix of hotels, shopping malls, shops and restaurants. If you stay in Kapaa you will have the best of both worlds: on the one hand you will have all the necessities of modern life within walking distance and, on the other hand, you will have these 3 must-visit beaches just a short drive away.
Kapaa Beach Park
This beach park extends in front of most of the Kuhio Highway on the east side of Kaui Island. From your Kapaa vacation home you will have access to beautiful sandy beaches and several restaurants without the need of jumping into your car. If you need to cross the Kuhio Highway make sure to check for traffic, especially during rush hour because local commuters might be in rush to get home. It is important to understand that while you might be on a holiday, there are several locals that are running errands and living their normal lives. On the far west side of Kappa Beach Park, you will find Waipoli Park, which is rich in history. In Kapaa you can book a guide to lead a hiking tour around Waipoli Park. After your stay at Kapa Beach Park, it is a great idea to try the coffee drinks at Smalltown Cafe or the Olympic Cafe, or the burgers at Bubba Burger.
Poipu Beach
If you're looking for the most kid-friendly beach in Kaui Island, look no further than Poipu Beach Park. This beach is blessed with a naturally-formed pool filled with calm ocean water that is great for toddlers to play in and for moms to be able to keep a close eye on them. Also, there is a lifeguard on duty throughout most of the day. The calm waters of the area make it a great spot for snorkeling and open ocean swimming. For those adventurous ones, there is one section where the surf breaks are good enough for a good boogie-boarding or surfing session. Nearby Poipu Beach you will find several shops that rent water sports equipment such as kayaks (both 1-person and 2-person), surfboards, paddleboards and snorkeling gear.
Mahaulepu Beach
This is one of the best kept secrets by locals because Mahaulepu Beach is a white sand beach with calm waters and very few visitors. To get to Mahaulepu Beach you will need to head towards the sugar plantation company located on the far east end of Poipu Beach. After following a dirt road and reaching the sugar plantation company, you will need to ask permission for the security personnel of the company to access this beach because it is on company ground. Mahaulepu Beach can get quite windy on open waters, which creates perfect conditions for windsurfing enthusiasts. This 'hidden' beach is perfect for those looking to completely get away from any signs of civilization and urban noise.
