There are plenty of activities to indulge in near Waikiki vacation rentals. However, the beaches in Hawaii are hard to avoid. After all, Hawaii has some of the best beaches of the world. Some beaches are globally famous, while others are only accessible by helicopter or boat. Some fantastic for snorkeling, while others still breath the rich history of the area. Yet, no matter what you find on the beach, Waikiki will certainly prove to have something for everyone, and Vacationhomes.com has a great selection to choose from.
Waikiki Beach
Famous around the world since the 1950s, Waikiki Beach has a lot of expectations to live up to. Undoubtedly, this beach does. Waikiki is Hawaiian for "Sprouting Water," and this beach is just that, with stunning turquoise waves crashing against white sand beaches. The views of Waikiki are stunning, to the south sapphire oceans and to the north towering skyscrapers making for a dramatic skyline. The beach is a huge tourist destination and offers more than great surfing waves and soft sand for tanning, but rather a reef for fantastic snorkeling, sea kayaking, and numerous other adventures and activities for guests of Waikiki rentals to take advantage of. The beach also has the amenities of restrooms and showers, picnic tables, life guards and a concession stand. The scene heats up after the sun sets as club goers use the Beach Walk as their own personal catwalk.
Ala Moana Beach Park
A 76-acre park, Ala Moana Beach Park lies west of Waikiki Beach. Known as "the Path to the Sea," Ala Moana is where the locals like to spend their time as very little tourists visit this area. The beach is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and surfing. The current is blocked, making for calm waters. Picnic tables and grills are available and shaded in a grassy-palm area. The beach park also provides free parking, although the parking lot is always full making it difficult to find free space. Luckily the beach is located on a bus line. It is almost as difficult to get onto the free tennis courts at Ala Moana Beach Park. However, although busy, it is worth the trek from your Hawaii rental.
Sand Island Beach Park
Littered with WWII bunkers and lookout towers as part of the coastal defense, Sand Island Beach Park is a small island offshore from Honolulu Harbor. The view is picturesque, facing Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach, and because it is so close to the Honolulu airport, planes get especially low here. Truly a unique scene. Enough shaded areas and benches are available for a rest from the sun. There is actually more park than there is sand. The island is also very rocky, so swimmers beware. However, the island itself is hardly ever crowded. There are no life guards, but restrooms are available. Sand Island Access Road is used to enter the island.
Hanauma Bay Park
A protected area for marine life makes Hanauma Bay Park a wonderful underwater adventure. The bay floor is a volcanic crater that connects with a rich coral reef and marine habitat. The curve of the bay makes smaller waves perfect for swimming and snorkeling. There are also fantastic hiking trails that follow along the white sand beach, offering beautiful views of the area. The best part of this beach, it is never over crowded.
