If you are planning a family holiday in New Jersey, stay in a North Wildwood rental. You can choose from condos, town houses and apartments according to your needs. Once you have seen the many attractions the city has to offer, a day trip out would be ideal. Here are some things to do on a day trip to Atlantic City.
Absecon Lighthouse
Situated on Rhode Island, this 150-year-old lighthouse is the tallest in the state. You can climb the 228 steps to the top of the lighthouse for a breathtaking view of Atlantic City. For lighthouse buffs, there is an original first order Fresnel's lens first lit in 1857. The lighthouse is open during July and August from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. From September to June, the lighthouse is open on Thursdays through Monday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $7 per adult as of March 2011.
Atlantic City Aquarium
This aquarium has fish and other marine species from all over the world. You can see fish from the Amazon River, Indo- Pacific region and the Mid Atlantic. Other exhibits include sea turtles, live corals, nudibranchs and Ocean oddities. Touch tanks allow you to get close to sharks and rays. You can also take a boat ride at the marina and shop for arts and craft.
Historic Smithville
Situated 15 miles from Atlantic City this village was established in 1787. You can walk along the cobbled-stone streets and boardwalks to shop at the more than 60 specialty stores that sell imported goods, ornaments and handmade glass, all of which are housed in restored 18th-century buildings. You can also dine at the Smithville Inn, a National Historic Site.
