Explore Pinckney Island near Hilton Head Island Condos

Hilton Head Island condos are the perfect place to begin your family vacation as Hilton Head is home to some of the most beautiful beaches located in South Carolina. This island retreat has so much to offer. After a fun-filled day at the beach, enjoy shopping, golfing or dining at any one of Hilton Head Islands' two-hundred restaurants. However, if you are somewhat adventurous, you may want to explore Pinckney Island, a National Wildlife Refuge, located on the north side of Hilton Head Island, across the waterway.

Pinckney Island - A Birdwatchers Paradise

Plan a day trip away from your Hilton Head Island vacation rental by exploring Pinckney Island; exploration is best during the spring and fall months, especially for the avid birdwatcher. Be sure to keep an eye out for the many types of songbirds, breeding birds, and wading birds.  Egrets, osprey, and herons can be found near the island's freshwater ponds preparing for nesting season. Rumor has it that there is a least one bald eagle nest on this island. You may be fortunate to be one of the select few who are privileged to spot this rare national bird.

Alligators are a familiar sight year-round and can be seen basking in the warm sun on the banks or swimming in the freshwater ponds; here, they have also been spotted in the salt waters of Mackay Creek. White-tailed deer and fox squirrels are also year-round occupants of the island.
