Sanibel Island, Florida Vacation Rentals
Sanibel Island is a barrier island off the Florida Coast in the Gulf of Mexico, just a few miles from Fort Myers. This charming low rise island is sure to please guests of Sanibel Island vacation rentals because it has world class charm combined with wonderful beaches. A main activity of those who stay at Sanibel Island beach rentals is shelling, since some of the most exotic shells in the world are found on these white sands. Another possibility is to tour the next island over, Captiva Island, which is even less built up than Sanibel and offers wonderful views of the water and more shells too. And of course there are all kinds of water related activities including swimming, boating, and fishing. Visitors renting Sanibel Island vacation homes will also probably want to explore the Fort Myers area, especially the winter estate of inventor Thomas A. Edison. The property has a wide variety of trees and plants and the lovely Florida style home is open for touring. And the J.N. "Ding Darling" National Wildlife Refuge & Bird Sanctuary is right on Sanibel Island as well and offers canoeing and kayaking in addition to birding. Travelers will doubtless like to view the Point Ybel Lighthouse that was built in 1884 and is still active. The area is filled with great restaurants and many of them are on the water.
