St. Augustine, Florida Vacation Rentals

St. Augustine is located on Florida's Atlantic Coast just a half hour from Jacksonville. This historic city was founded by the Spanish in 1565 and still has the feel of a Spanish town with its architecture and intimate nature. Guests of St. Augustine vacation rentals will want to tour Castillo de San Marcos, a fortress built in 1695 to defend the Spanish claim to the New World. Another sight they will want to see is the legendary Fountain of Youth, and possibly drink from it as well. It is located on the 15 waterfront acres of the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park and was discovered by Pedro Menendez, the founder of St. Augustine. Those staying in St. Augustine beach rentals will relish the beautiful beaches that offer all kinds of activities, such as swimming, parasailing, scuba diving and snorkeling. Visitors staying in St. Augustine vacation homes will also want to visit the Lightner Museum, which was the former Hotel Alcazar. Built in 1887, it holds wonderful mementoes of America's Gilded Age, including costumes, musical instruments and furnishings. Another tourist destination is Ripley's Believe it or Not, the first permanent Ripley's collection, which is located in Castle Warden. St. Augustine is filled with charming eateries, but one favorite of the locals is Kingfish, for its spectacular food and views.
