East Tawas is located in northeastern Michigan, along Lake Huron, about an hour and a half north of Saginaw. Tawas Bay is known for its great sailing and Tawas Point State Park has numerous trails that visitors can enjoy, especially because they can go birding there. Due to the fact that it juts out into the lake, waterfowl and shore birds love to nest there. Those staying in East Tawas beach rentals will want to climb the Tawas Point Lighthouse, which was built in 1876 and offers great views of the area. There is also a museum attached to the lighthouse, which has displays about the history of the lighthouse. Visitors renting East Tawas vacation homes will probably enjoy attending the annual Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival in October. They will want to visit the Huron National Forest as well. This preserve comprises almost one million acres of forest and offers wonderful hiking. They could also visit the Lumberman's Monument Visitor Center, which has exhibits about the area's lumbering past. They will doubtless be impressed by the 14-foot Lumberman's Monument that stands along the Au Sable River. The Tawas Blues by the Bay Festival has been entertaining music lovers for 10 years.
