Arlington Massachusetts was founded more than 350 years ago. It was originally settled in 1635. Arlington has a population of 42,389 (2,000 census) and it is roughly six miles northwest of Boston and it is bordered on the north by Winchester, on the east by Medford and Somerville, on the south by Cambridge and Belmont and on the west by Lexington. Arlington is the birthplace of Uncle Sam, it is home to the country's first children's public library, and it is the site of the bloodiest fighting during the first day of the Revolutionary War, April 19, 1775. The area features many historic buildings and it has recreated its town common. Historic points of interest include Smith Museum. Jason Russell House, Prince Hall Cemetery, Addison Hill House, Pierce Farm Historic District, and Winn Farm, to name a few.
