Lanai City Basics
Until the early 1990's, Lanai was the world's largest source of pineapple. Still referred to as "Pineapple Island," Lanai was a Dole pineapple plantation for close to 70 years. Agricultural crops, ranching, and resort development, managed to push the pineapple out of the picture, and today, Lanai is a private Island owned by David H. Murdock. It is also home to two of the world's most prestigious golf courses and resorts.
