Founded in 1772, Fajardo (pronounced fah-HAHR-do) is located in the east region of the island of Puerto Rico. Fajardo, or "the city that guards the sun of the Caribbean," has a population of 40,712 residents and it offers beautiful year round weather perfect for the islands most popular activity - boating. Sport-diving excursions are popular on the island and the opportunities for sunning and swimming are virtually endless. Seven Seas Beach has plenty of water sports facilities for scuba diving, snorkeling, and sailing, and Las Cabezas de San Juan nature preserve is a very significant and popular point of interest. It is home to seven different ecological systems and many endangered species. Visitors can also enjoy views of the island and surrounding areas from the observation deck of the El Faro de las Cabezas de San Juan lighthouse. Nearby islets include: Icacos, Palominos, Palominitos and Diablo. These are all uninhabited coral islands.
